The ATTACCA Quartet
St. Francis of Assisi, Incline Village, 4-6PM
Tahoe Music Alive is thrilled to present the Grammy Award–winning Attacca Quartet on April 20 at Incline Village's St. Francis of Assisi Church, offering audiences a chance to experience one of the most dynamic and forward-thinking string quartets of our time.

Described by The Nation as an ensemble that “lives in the present aesthetically, without rejecting the virtues of the musical past,” the Attacca Quartet is renowned for its extraordinary versatility. With equal fluency in the masterworks of the 18th and 19th centuries and the boldest voices of today, Attacca has emerged as a defining quartet for modern audiences—bridging tradition and innovation with clarity, energy, and emotional depth.

The quartet tours extensively throughout the United States and abroad, appearing regularly at leading venues and festivals. Recent and upcoming highlights include Lincoln Center, Miller Theatre, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, Banff International String Quartet Festival, Ojai Music Festival, Bang on a Can Festival, and La Jolla Music Society SummerFest, among many others. Attacca has also served as Quartet in Residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Graduate Resident String Quartet at Juilliard, and Ensemble-in-Residence at Texas State University, reflecting their deep commitment to both performance and education.

Internationally, the quartet has made acclaimed appearances at Kings Place in London, Vertavo Haydn Festival in Oslo, Gothenburg Konserthuset, and major festivals throughout Europe and South America, including performances in Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Spain, and Italy. Alongside live concerts, Attacca has embraced innovative digital formats, producing filmed and streamed performances for institutions such as the Banff Centre and Duke Performances, expanding the reach of chamber music to new audiences worldwide.

At the heart of Attacca Quartet’s artistic identity is a profound dedication to contemporary music. Their landmark recording Orange, featuring works by Pulitzer Prize–winning composer Caroline Shaw, earned the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music/Small Ensemble Performance. Widely praised by critics, the album was featured on NPR’s lists of the best albums of the decade and The New York Times’ best classical tracks of 2019. Composer John Adams has remarked that Attacca “shares their musical DNA,” a testament to the quartet’s deep connection to today’s creative voices.

Previous recordings include critically acclaimed albums of works by John Adams and Michael Ippolito, earning accolades from The New York Times and multiple national awards. The quartet has also captured top prizes at major international competitions in Osaka, Melbourne, and the United States.
The Attacca Quartet’s appearance at Olympic Valley Chapel promises an evening of compelling contrasts—music that honors the past while speaking directly to the present. This concert is a must for chamber music lovers eager to experience artistry that is vibrant, daring, and unmistakably of our time.
